Fishcamp Lodge on the Frio River, nestled between two large picturesque hills north of Leakey about 7 miles on US Hwy 83 near the headwaters of the West Prong. It’s a place that has deep, private water for kayaking, fishing and swimming with panoramic views of the cypress lined river. The original ‘fishcamp’ house consists of 3-bedrooms/1 bathroom, but looking for much more, the owners designed and built an adjoining property that will certainly wow the eyes. The new lodge has an additional 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a large great room. The goal was to create a unique space that emphasized indoor/outdoor living, incorporating locally sourced woods, decorations and designs. Not to mention, plenty of seating to enjoy beautiful vistas of sunny skies, water, trees and hills were found. Want to relax, no problem, there is an indoor/outdoor fireplace, outdoor kitchen and decks (yes, one is over the water) galore to sit and enjoy the Frio Canyon. The owners want to give every guest a unique experience, and this they did by commissioning a renowned wood carver from Wichita Falls named Aurelio Castillo. He created carvings in all the cedar posts supporting the structure and in the large (dying) post-oak tree near the cabin. At every turn on the property one finds a bear, fish, fox, owl or Native American gazing at the guest. Castillo spent several weeks creating these pieces and what a whimsical, memorable, fun and wonderful sight to see. There are many unique and beautiful qualities of Fishcamp Lodge; and, most importantly, are the solitude and peacefulness. The crowds of ‘tubers in Concan' aren’t floating by this area of the river. On the grassy private banks sits Fishcamp Lodge, with its deep, clear, beautiful Frio River water that you and your 17 friends can actually swim in and enjoy with others.
